The College Placement Exam – TSI Assessment - is computer adaptive and state
All first time students pursuing a degree or Level
II certificate are required to take the TSI Assessment exam if they are not
TSI exempt prior to registration. This

The examinee will first have a placement exam in each subject area –
Reading/Writing/Math. If they are at
the college level, then they will advance to the next subject area. If a person doessn’t place at the college
level in a subject, then they will have approximately 30 to 50 additional
diagnostic questions in the subject before they advance to the next subject
The diagnostic results will appear on the TSI Assessment Score Report – so
that the examinee is aware of their strengths and weakness in each subject
area that they complete diagnostic questions over.

Please note the following test policies: (1) Test Fee is $29.00 – this fee is paid in the Business Office and then the
receipt is taken to the Testing Department to have a reservation made. A Testing Contract must be completed before a
reservation can be made. [New Option - created 6/11/13]If you are out of town and want to pay the exam fee with a credit card by phone, please do the following: Call the Business Office at (361) 354-2220 and pay the $29 fee with your credit card and request for a copy of the receipt to be e-mailed to you and a copy to the Testing Coordinator at email@example.com. (9) Students are not allowed to bring
any electronic device (cell phone, mp3 player, camera, etc...) into the testing
room. They will leave their personal
items in their vehicle, with a friend, or will turn the items in to the testing
personnel when they sign-in for the exam – before entering the exam room. The personal items will be collected and
stored at the owner’s risk. Coastal Bend
College will not be responsible for any items lost or stolen. Steps before
testing:(1) Pay the exam fee and bring a copy of the
receipt to the testing department so you can make your reservation with the
testing department. (Reservations are
first-come, first-served, paid reservation basis).
(2) Fill out the testing contract and complete
the mandatory “Pre-Assessment Activity”.
(3) Fill out the Apply Texas Application

when you will test so that a CBC ID# can be created for you.
(4) On the day of testing, bring Photo
ID and your CBC ID#.

in the R. W. Dirks Student Services Building 7/24/14 - Announcement: If you need to take just one area of the TSI Assessment - ask the Testing Personnel about scheduling your TSI during the Internet Testing Hours which are Mondays and Tuesdays - 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. or Mondays through Thursdays - 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.. We will be happy to accommodate you if we have enough space. Please realize that an individual can spend from one (1) to four (4) hours in one subject area - therefore, schedule accordingly. New - 7/28/14 : If you are not able to test during one of the scheduled test dates, please ask our testing personnel about additional dates that you may test. As long as we have lab space and testing personnel available to administer the exam we will administer the TSI Assessment to individuals if they've already paid their TSI fee, filled out the TSI Assessment Contract, and have Photo ID and know their CBC ID# or social security number. Be aware that the complete TSI Assessment can be one (1) to nine (9) hours in length. If an individual is not able to complete the exam within a day, then they will need to come back on another day to complete it. A TSI Assessment Ticket will be given to individuals to remind them about the date and time that they will need to return to complete the exam.
