    Professor Ben Shelton was raised in Odessa, Texas. Following high school graduation, he attended Southwest Texas State University.  He worked in the oil field and built a house near Blanco to help finance his education.  After graduating from college, Professor Shelton taught and coached at Ector County Independent School District. He served in this capacity for two years.

    Professor Shelton’s next career started with the insurance industry.  He started as a multi-lines adjuster and after seven years he eventually became a Resident Manager.  He left the insurance industry in order to attend graduate school.  He graduated from Southwest Texas State University with his MPA in Political Science.  Professor Shelton started teaching American Government for Palo Alto College.  Also, he started teaching courses for St. Phillips College and Northwest Vista College.  Later, he became Assistant City Manager for the city of Castle Hills and then moved on to become City Manager of Kenedy.

    Professor Shelton has been teaching at Coastal Bend College since 2000 and was the Political Science Coordinator for ten years. His interests include hunting, fishing, and traveling.  Also, he still has an avid passion for coaching Little League Baseball.
