Target High Schools:
Coastal Bend College in Alice, Texas currently hosts the Talent Search Program which was originally funded in 2006. The Talent Search Program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the post secondary institution of their choice. Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to reenter the education system and complete their education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in post secondary education institutions of their choice. Number of participants to be served each year by this project is 616. The annual budget is $285,6800.
Services that Talent Search Provides:
The TS is a program designed to assist students with college preparation. There are a number of services provided by our program that will help make the transition from high school to college smoother, they include:
Academic Counseling: - If you are Dual Credit (High School) and College Freshmen, we can help you decide which courses are right for you.
Financial Aid Counseling - We can assist you with your FAFSA application and help match you with scholarship opportunities.
Career Counseling - We offer general career information, and we can help you find colleges that offer classes in your chosen major.
Tutoring Services - We can help you decide what high school classes are right for your educational goals and we can match you with tutors that will help you with college prep courses and tests such as the ACT, SAT, TSI, and STARR.
Scholarship Services - We can help you find scholarships for your chosen educational major.
