Katy began her education at Victoria College as a dual credit student and transferred to East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas after her freshman year of college. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2008. She continued her education at Lamar University and received a Master of Science degree in Biology in 2010. Her master’s thesis, “Year-round bird use of monotypic Chinese tallow tree, Traidica sebifera, stands In Southeast Texas”, developed her background in ornithology and invasive species.

Katy taught General Biology and Anatomy and Physiology I labs at Lamar University from 2008-2009. She has worked at Coastal Bend College since 2012. She teaches Principles of Biology (BIOL 1408) lecture and lab at CBC.

Katy enjoys making people laugh. She also enjoys finding fun crafts and recipes on Pinterest—although her final products are rarely sources of pride. One of Katy’s life goals has been to share the fascination of living things—both large and small—with others and she thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to do so with her students.
