Katy began her education at Victoria College as a dual
credit student and transferred to East Texas Baptist University in Marshall,
Texas after her freshman year of college. She received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Biology in 2008. She continued her education at Lamar University and
received a Master of Science degree in Biology in 2010. Her master’s thesis,
“Year-round bird use of monotypic Chinese tallow tree, Traidica sebifera, stands In Southeast Texas”, developed her
background in ornithology and invasive species.
Katy taught General Biology and Anatomy and Physiology I
labs at Lamar University from 2008-2009. She has worked at Coastal Bend College
since 2012. She teaches Principles of Biology (BIOL 1408) lecture and lab at
Katy enjoys making people laugh. She also enjoys finding fun
crafts and recipes on Pinterest—although her final products are rarely sources
of pride. One of Katy’s life goals has been to share the fascination of living
things—both large and small—with others and she thoroughly enjoys the
opportunity to do so with her students.
