Alice High School and Coastal Bend College presents this year's Dia Del Mariachi Competition.

The Eighth Annual Coastal Bend College Dia Del Mariachi™ Vocal and Group Competition was held on Saturday April 17, 2010 at the Alice High School Auditorium in Alice, Texas, featured Mariachi Los Arrieros del Valle, recognized as one of the Best Mariachi's in the southern United States. Over 40 groups and over 800 mariachi students participated in the competition. The competition’s best overall Elementary/Middle School, High School, and the best overall group from Elementary/Middle School, High Schools, and UTPA Mariachi Juvenil were showcased prior to the Mariachi Los Arrieros concert on Saturday evening.

The mission of Dia Del Mariachi™ is to strive for Mariachi music excellence; develop young leaders with Hispanic cultural understanding; inspire a spirit of pride and unity in the people and communities of South Texas; and to introduce everyone to Coastal Bend College’s educational opportunities. The event is designed to provide students with college information, fellowship with other young musicians, experience with stage performing, the opportunity to listening to other groups and, best of all, a chance to open at a professional Mariachi concert.
