Hey everybody!
I wanted to add a section to my webpage that could help you. I know that when I first began school I had no idea what I needed to have with me or how to prepare for registration. I am hoping this will help those of you who are interested in pre-professional or Biologically significant fields.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Short list (for those who are hesitant to read)
The first thing you need to do is gather...
- A copy of any transcript significant to your college work. This includes your high school transcript or any transcript that you may have from a previously attended college or university.
- If you have taken a placement exam, they should have given you a sheet with the scores. (examples include THEA, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER). Keep this with you when you come in to register. Even if you took it, there is no guarantee that those scores are in the computer system. By having them, you are insuring your advisor has access to them as well.
- **NOTE** If you have not taken a placement exam, you may need to take one in order for the advisor to put you into classes.
You should try to gather information about the program you want to attend once you are done at CBC.
For Example:
"I apply to go to Texas Tech and become a doctor"
This means YOU need to try and find their web page with information about the pre-requisites for their program. This ultimately does 2 things.
1. It gives you a better idea of what classes you should take here so that you can transfer them to the school of your choice.
2. It saves your time and money because you are not taking useless classes that will not help you achieve your goals.
Another thing to keep in mind. If there is not an answer on a webpage to your question in regard to the school....CALL THEM. Get the answers you seek directly from them.
If you do call: write the time, date, and NAME of the person you have spoken to. (Keep this information.)
Start a NEW folder.
It will be exclusive to your registration information.
All of the above mentioned items need to be kept in this folder. This will make it easier for you. You will not have to scramble around trying to find these things every semester. You can just grab your folder and go!
This will also be handy to keep for your next destination school.
Here is a list of school sites where you should be able to find program information. If you find more...please shoot me an e-mail so that I can add them to the page!
Thanks! Ronika
