Schimelpfening, the Cosmetology Instructor at the Pleasanton site of
Coastal Bend College, believes she was destined for this profession when she
was just a little tot and cut her doll’s hair believing it would grow back.
Hmmm…we know the results of that, but if it sounds familiar to you then you
just might be a good candidate for the cosmetology program. Her love for this
profession began over 40 years ago when she enrolled in Cosmetology as a junior
at Southwest High School in San Antonio and served as Vice-President of the
Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. After graduating from McMullen County
High School in Tilden, she went to San Antonio Beauty College to complete her
Cosmetology education. For several years, she worked at a salon in Angleton. In
1987, Rita’s love of Cosmetology and desire to beautify and make others feel
good about themselves rose to a different level wanting to instill her
knowledge into others, so they too, could make others beautiful. She challenged
the Texas Cosmetology Commission Board of Examinations, acquired her
Instructors’ license and began her Instructing career at Vogue Beauty
College#25 in Corpus Christi. Some of her work was published in 1989 in the
Styles and Stylists’ Kids & Teenagers
Unisex Hairlooks 33rd Edition hairstyle book. From 1991-2002, she owned and operated her own Salon,
The Total Image by Rita in Cotulla.
But, her dedication didn’t stop here. She developed Coastal Bend College’s
Cosmetology program in Pleasanton when it opened in 2002, and continues to
instruct. In 2004 and again in 2007, by students’ nomination, she received the
Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers Award. In the Milady Standard Cosmetology
2007 Edition textbook, she was acknowledged in the Review Committee. Mrs.
Schimelpfening became a Certified Master Educator in 2011 through Milady’s Career
Institute, Clifton Park, NY., then in 2012 received an English Award in part of
achieving her A.A.S. Cosmetology at Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton. Through
all this, she brings many years of ‘real life’ experience to the students.
As with any profession, Mrs.
Schimelpfening believes that if you do what you like and like what you do, it
makes life’s journey much smoother. She loves her profession and has a passion
for sharing it with others. In having small classes, her goal is to send out
quality cosmetologists, who will be as successful-if not more successful-than herself.
Her greatest reward is to see the success of her former students.
Let her know if she can help
you with any questions. Please, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 830-569-4222
