  • The Coastal Bend College Foundation offers multiple scholarships for CBC students to assist them in their funding of their education pursuits. These scholarships come from monies donated by various individuals, foundations, and businesses who believe in the pursuit of higher education. Many of these applications have SPECIFIC requirements based on things like major/program of study, academic performance and/or financial need. Please read each description carefully.

    Each scholarship will be reviewed by a separate group representing CBC faculty, CBC Foundation Board of Directors members, select CBC deans and in some cases donor families themselves.

    Sammy Lee Abrigo Memorial Scholarship  

    This scholarship, given in memory of Beeville police officer Sammy Lee Abrigo, is a $500 scholarship that is awarded annually to a single recipient. Preference is given to a Pettus High School graduate, but the scholarship is open to graduates of a Bee County high school if no Pettus High School graduates apply. Preference is also given to a student majoring in law enforcement or criminal justice, but the scholarship is open to other majors if no law enforcement or criminal justice majors apply. Renewable for spring semester.

    Cruz and Sofia Alaniz Automotive Technology Program Scholarship 

    This pair of $2,000 endowed scholarships honoring longtime Beeville residents Cruz and Sofia Alaniz are for students in Coastal Bend College’s automotive technology program entering their second semester. Priority will be given to students from Bee County, but applicants from the CBC service area (including Karnes, McMullen, Live Oak, Duval, Jim Wells and Brooks counties, and parts of Atascosa and Kleberg counties) are welcome to apply.

    Avangrid Renewable Energy Industrial Mechanics Scholarship 

    This endowed scholarship will be awarded to students studying in the industrial mechanics program with preference given as follows: 1) Students residing in Bee County; 2) Students residing in San Patricio County; 3) Students residing within the Coastal Bend College service area. This scholarship is renewable for four total semesters if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.  The amount of the award will vary based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    Behmann Brothers Foundation Nursing Scholarship  

    This scholarship comes to the College from Corpus Christi based Behmann Brothers Foundation.  The Behmann Brothers Foundation’s motto is “For the Good of the People”.  The Foundation focuses its charitable contributions primarily in the areas of agricultural research and education, youth groups, healthcare, and service organizations.  These Nursing scholarships combine several of those areas of interests.
    It is open to full-time students who have been fully admitted into one of the NURSING programs and will consider academic success and financial need, with preference given to students from college's eight county service area.  This scholarship will renew for the Spring semester if an overall 3.0 GPA is maintained.

    Cathryn G. Berninger Memorial Nursing Scholarship 

    This endowed scholarship is awarded in memory of former Beeville resident Cathryn G. Berninger, who made largest single estate gift in the college’s history. It is open to students who have been fully admitted into the vocational nursing program. Students should have demonstrable financial need (i.e., receiving federal financial aid/Pell Grant). An essay answer will be considered to determine award. Students residing in Bee County will be given primary consideration, followed by students from the remainder of the CBC service area. This scholarship is renewable for each semester of the program if a 2.50 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    Dr. Thomas Betz Memorial Scholarship 

    This endowed scholarship is named in honor of renowned tropical physician, epidemiologist, and global infectious disease expert Dr. Thomas Betz. It is available to eligible students who are receiving federal financial aid/Pell Grant and are registered as full-time students (or considered full-time in their respective academic program). Preference will be given to students from Rockport / Aransas County. The scholarship is renewable for spring semester if a 3.0 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award will vary based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    Lt. Col Albert P. Blosch Masonic Scholarship        

    This scholarship created by the brothers of the Beeville Masonic Lodge is to commemorate longtime Temple Master and Vietnam War Silver Star recipient Lt. Col. Albert P. Blosch. Blosch distinguished himself during the Prisoner of War search and rescue operation at Son Tay, North Vietnam, on 21 November 1970. This scholarship is available to first-year students who are enrolled full-time at Coastal Bend College who graduated from A.C. Jones, Pettus or Skidmore-Tynan high schools. Applicants must have a minimum of 3.0 high school GPA. 

    Carus Dental Hygiene Scholarship 

    This endowed scholarship is open to students who have been fully admitted into the dental hygiene program, have demonstrable financial need (receive federal financial aid/Pell Grant), and a carry at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Applicants must complete a short essay question. This scholarship is renewable for each semester of attendance if a 2.50 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    ConocoPhillips Oil & Gas Scholarship 

    This scholarship is offered through the college’s relationship with ConocoPhillips.  ConocoPhillips is one of the world’s leading exploration and production companies based on both production and reserves, with a globally diversified asset portfolio. They explore for, produce, transport and market crude oil, bitumen, natural gas, natural gas liquids and liquefied natural gas on a worldwide basis.

    This scholarship is open to students enrolled in the oil and gas technology Associate of Applied Science program who reside in Bee, DeWitt, or Karnes counties.  Renewable for spring semester.

    DCP Midstream Scholarship 

    This scholarship is open to students enrolled full-time in the oil and gas technology Associate of Applied Science program who are either a United States military veteran, or currently in the military reserves or National Guard. Renewable for spring semester.

    George W. and Edythe W. Dickinson Memorial Vocational Educational Scholarship 

    The George W. and Edythe W. Dickinson Memorial Vocational Educational Scholarship was created via a planned gift by longtime college employee George W. Dickinson. In his own words, “This is done by me through a desire to do something worthwhile for Bee County and Beeville … through a desire to furnish through vocational training an opportunity for young people to be taught and learn useful trades and skills, and thus equip themselves for future life.” It is available to students who are enrolled in one of CBC’s Career and Technical Education majors (automotive technology, architecture & civil engineering, industrial mechanics, oil & gas, welding, business management, business technology, computer information technology, forensic science and law enforcement, cosmetology, and early development & education), have completed 24 credit hours, and have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    R.W. and Eula Mae Dirks Memorial Scholarship 

    This scholarship honors long-serving Board of Trustees member and local businessman R.W. “Bill” Dirks and his wife, Eula Mae. It is open to any full-time Coastal Bend College student who does NOT qualify for federal financial aid (Pell Grant) but still has demonstratable need. This scholarship may be renewed provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    Lt. James R. Dougherty Jr. Foundation Dental Hygiene Scholarship 

    These scholarships are given in memory of Beeville native 2Lt. James R. Dougherty Jr., who was killed in action during World War II. Dougherty was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism while serving with Company B, 82d Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 7 October 1944. Eligible students MUST be admitted into the dental hygiene program. A career goal narrative is required of the applicant.

    Equinor Oil & Gas Scholarship 

    This $2,000 scholarship is open to students enrolled in the oil and gas technology Associate of Applied Science program with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Renewable for spring semester.

    Foundation Scholarship (Need Based) 

    These $500 scholarships are available to eligible students who are receiving federal financial aid/Pell Grant and are registered as full-time students (or considered full-time in their respective academic program). Preference will be given to students from Bee County. However, some scholarships will be awarded to students from beyond this area. Scholarship is renewable for spring semester if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

    Foundation Scholarship (Non-Need Based) 

    These $500 scholarships are available to eligible students who are NOT receiving any type of federal financial aid/Pell Grant and are registered as full-time students (or considered full-time in their respective academic program). Preference will be given to students from the Coastal Bend College Service area (Bee, Brooks Duval, Karnes, Live Oak, McMullen, Jim Wells and parts of Atascosa and Kleberg counties). However, some scholarships will be awarded to students from beyond this area. Applicants will be required to explain their financial hardship or challenges in paying for college. Scholarship is renewable for spring semester if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

    Grady C. Hogue Memorial Scholarship 

    This scholarship was established by the Rockwell Fund Inc. in honor of Grady C. Hogue, the first president of Coastal Bend College (then Bee County College). The recipient is chosen based on scholastic achievement and financial need. Applicant must have reached sophomore standing (30-plus credit hours) and be receiving need-based federal financial aid to qualify. This scholarship may be renewed provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds. 

    Honorable Rachel Littlejohn-Diebel Memorial Women’s Leadership Scholarship 

    This endowed scholarship is awarded in memory of the Honorable Winifred Rachel Littlejohn-Diebel, who was a trailblazer in South Texas as one of only a handful of female lawyers before becoming South Texas’ first female district judge in 1974. Born in Wellingborough, England, Littlejohn-Diebel studied at Cambridge University before serving in British intelligence during World War II.  After the war, she then immigrated to the United States, graduating cum laude from Baylor University Law School in 1950. The female recipient is chosen based on leadership, scholastic achievement, and financial need. Applicants must have reached sophomore standing (24-plus credit hours), be receiving need-based federal financial aid and serve as an officer in a registered student organization or captain of a varsity athletic team to qualify. This scholarship may be renewed provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained. The amount of the award varies based on available distributions from the endowed funds.

    David Lytle Memorial Scholarship 

    This $250 scholarship is open to non-traditional students (over the age of 24; or employed working more than 30 hours; or graduated with a GED; or has dependents) at Coastal Bend College who reside in Bee, Goliad, Karnes, Live Oak, or San Patricio counties. Must be registered in six (6) or more hours. Renewable for spring semester with a GPA of 2.75.

    Marathon Oil and Gas Scholarship 

    This scholarship is open to full-time CBC students enrolled in the oil and gas technology Associate of Applied Science program who reside in the Coastal Bend College service area (Karnes, McMullen, Live Oak, Duval, Jim Wells and Brooks counties, and parts of Atascosa and Kleberg counties). Renewable for spring semester by maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
