Anna Hazelrigg grew up in Alabama and
Arizona. After completing a BA in English at Northern Arizona University, she
moved to Texas to attend graduate school at Texas State University, where she
earned an MFA in creative writing. Her short stories have appeared in various
literary journals and anthologies. She was selected writer-in-residence at the
University of Arizona Poetry Center (2007) and has received other honors,
including a Pushcart Prize nomination (2010) and a National Institute for Staff
and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award (2012)
for teaching.
Ms. Hazelrigg has been with Coastal Bend
College since 2003. She has taught a range of English courses over the
years that include developmental English, Composition and Grammar (ENGL 1301),
Composition and Rhetoric (ENGL 1302), Masterpieces of American Literature (ENGL
2326), British Literature I & II (ENGL 2322 / 2323) and Creative Writing I
and II (ENG: 2307 / 2308). She teaches in Pleasanton, Beeville, and online. As
a former community college student, she understands the challenges many
students face in reaching their personal learning goals. She loves to help
students become confident writers and readers and to help them connect to the
greater human experience though literature and language.
In her spare time, Ms. Hazelrigg hangs out
with a pack of rescue mutts and a cat named Sushi. Aside from writing, reading,
and traveling, she enjoys watching British dramas, eating Jalisco style Mexican
food, and listening to progressive rock music.
