The Learning Assistance Center
The CBC Learning Assistance Centers (LAC) offer free services to help students improve academic skills and increase their chances for success. The LAC offers Internet access and computerized courses for review or testing. The network is available for word-processing assignments. Computer-assisted instruction is user friendly and easy to use even for those who are unfamiliar with computers. Testing is another function of the LAC. State approved exams used for placement are administered as announced throughut each semester. Other services include online study skills instruction, Internet student advising, online library resources, tutoring, and online library resources.
The LAC at the Alice campus is located in room 130. The library reference materials are also located within the center. The LAC staff is available for assistance during regular operational hours - Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The LAC at the Beeville campus is located in the R. W. Dirks Student Services Building in V-138. Counseling, advising, testing,and the TRiO Program. Student Support Services are also housed in the Beeville LAC. The General Education Development Tests (GED) is administered only at the Beeville LAC. They are normally administered on Monday and Thursday and appointments are required for all exams. The LAC staff is available for assistance during regular operational hours - Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Kingsville campus houses learning assistance services in room 112. Student advising is also provided through the center counselor or advisor. The LAC staff is available for assistance during regular operational hours - Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
The Pleasanton campus houses learning assistance services in room 121. The LAC staff is available for assistance during regular operational hours - Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
In addition, student instructor review sessions are coordinated by the LAC counselor and various instructors. Instructors make classes when a student instructor is available. Free courses are offered by the learning assistance center via the Internet. These include topics in English, mathematics, reading, and study skills. Similar courses in the form of three-hour seminars are also offered for adults from the community enrolled in adult basic education.
