The primary objective of the Welding Program is to provide the student with necessary skills and knowledge for entry level employment in many industries with different requirements for cutting and welding.

The Welding program of instruction will develop skills and knowledge which will enable the student to:

    1. Set up and operate Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc (GMAW), or Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW), machines for welding together parts fabricated, as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures, and operating charts.
    1. Adjust machine for position and to obtain proper penetration of bead.
    1. Layout, fit, and tack work pieces together.
    1. Weld together metal components in all welding positions and adjust amperage, voltage and speed during welding to assure required weld deposit.
    1. Cut plate and pipe to required specifications for welding, using hand held oxyacetylene torch, plasma arc, metalworker, saw, and straight line plate and pipe cutters and beveling machines.
    1. Layout parts and assemble according to specifications, develop templates, and other work aids to hold and align parts.
    1. Determine type of welding process to be used; such as SMAW, GMAW, GTAW..  Applying knowledge of metals to be joined, angles to be formed, and distortion and weld size.
    1. Applying knowledge of equipment, geometry, physical properties of metals, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques for plate/pipe layout, assembly, and welding.
    1. Communicate effectively with others in the trade orally and in writing.
    1. Solve welding and piping problems using plane geometry and trigonometry.
    1. Read blueprints, welding symbols and isometric drawings used in welding industry.
    1. Use drafting instruments in calculating and developing templates, letters, three-view drawings, shop drafting problems, shop dimensions, sheet metal layout used in the welding industry.
    1. Seek and find employment in a field related to his/her training.
