Dr. Ecklund is the Vice President of Instruction and Economic
Development. He comes to Coastal Bend
from Northeast Iowa Community College, where he served as Dean of Business and
Computer Sciences for 4 years. Prior to
that, Dr. Ecklund served as an adjunct, Program Chair, and Dean of Faculty at
Minnesota School of Business/Globe University.
Prior to getting into education, Dr. Ecklund served 9 years in the US
Army. He also worked in business as an
office manager and as a corporate trainer.
Dr. Ecklund is a community college graduate and knows the value of the
education provided. He received a
Bachelor of Business and a Master's of Education in Human Resource Development
from the University of Minnesota. He
also has an MBA from Minnesota School of Business. He completed an Ed.D. in Educational
Administration from the University of South Dakota.
He has continued to teach as an adjunct faculty when time permits. This allows him to keep up with what is
happening in the classroom and better relate to faculty.
Dr. Ecklund's philosophy of education is students first. Great teachers are able to reach each
student. They are able to find the
things that motivate and get students excited.
Each student is an individual and has their own needs. If educators can reach those needs, students
will walk out of the classroom successfully learning what they need to
know. When the teacher's role is to
guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source
of information, the students' search for knowledge is met as they learn to find
answers to their questions. For students
to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves
and practice skills in authentic situations.
