YouthBuild Coastal Bend 

YouthBuild Coastal Bend will be led by Pettus Independent School District in partnership with Coastal Bend College, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, and Beeville Housing Authority. The duration of the pre-apprentice training program is six to ten months for each cohort of trainees followed by 12 months of supportive follow-up services. Components of the YouthBuild Coastal Bend program are intended to be integrated and designed to be offered together. Trainees will complete the high school equivalency/GED preparation classes while building basic construction skills. 

All YouthBuild Coastal Bend trainees will receive educational services in addition to Construction Training and vocational specialty training. All classroom educational services will be conducted on the CBC Beeville campus. Educational services will include instruction in basic skills, remedial education, and alternative education leading to a high school equivalency/GED through the Crossroads program.  

YouthBuild Coastal Bend trainees begin their occupational journey with a career exploration of in-demand occupations in the local area using virtual reality simulations. Following specialty area training and examinations, trainees will apply for apprenticeship licensing in the respective occupational fields and be placed in an apprenticeship program with an employer partner. 

All trainees will participate in pre-apprenticeship construction training culminating in earned NCCER certifications. The training includes: 

• Basic Construction Safety 

• Construction Materials and Methods 

• Construction Technology 

• Construction Tools and Techniques 

Completion of the pre-apprenticeship construction training program culminates in an opportunity to participate in the substantial renovation of at least one home that is permanent housing for low-income individuals. It is anticipated that all participants will complete the program having earned: 

• NCCER Core 

• NCCER Level 1 

• NCCER Level 2 

• OSHA 10  

• OSHA 30  

Which will be needed for one of the following occupations:  

• Certified HVAC Technician 

• Licensed Electrician 

• Licensed Plumber
