Alice, Texas – Coastal Bend College (CBC)–Alice, in partnership with community organizations, delivered a week of impactful events designed to connect residents with resources, education, and career opportunities. Through collaborations with the Jim Wells County Rotary Club and Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend, CBC hosted both the annual Community Back to School Bash and the Your Path to Success: Job Fair & College Expo, serving hundreds of community members.
On Wednesday, August 6, CBC–Alice and Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend co-hosted the Your Path to Success: Job Fair & College Expo, bringing together job seekers, training providers, and employers from across the region. CBC staff were on hand to guide prospective students through the ApplyTexas application process, provide financial aid assistance including FAFSA completion, and offer on-site registration for certificate, degree, and short-term training programs. Attendees also learned about apprenticeship opportunities and pathways to quickly gain workforce-ready skills while earning college credit.
The event also provided attendees with direct access to hiring opportunities in business, health care, public service, and skilled trades, as well as information on college programs, short-term training, and apprenticeships. Employers on-site included: Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Compass Connections, All Temps Personnel Services, River City Home Care, TexBest Travel Centers, Texas Department of Public Safety, Allegiance Mobile Health, Kiewit, REAL Inc., Federal Correctional Institution Three Rivers, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Two days later, on Friday, August 8, more than 300 attendees gathered at CBC–Alice for the Back to School Bash. Families enjoyed school supply giveaways, free sports and band physicals, and the chance to connect with local vendors and organizations including: 79th District Attorney Carlos Omar Garcia – Jim Wells and Brooks Counties, Alice Fire Department, Alice Police Department, Amy Salinas, CBC/Rotary Club of Jim Wells County, Chicanos Por La Causa, Chick-fil-A Alice, Community Action HeadStart, Community Action (toothbrush donation), Crime Stoppers of Jim Wells County, HALO Flight, Harbor Hospice, Immanuel Lutheran Church – Alice, Jim Wells County 4-H Club, Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department, LJA Engineering, Meridian Care, Midtown Perk, REAL Transportation, Rey Trejo (non-political), Saldivar Home Health, Tellus Equipment, The Premier of Alice, Tidechangers – Alice Chapter, United Connections Counseling, and Windsor Nursing Homes in Alice and San Diego.
These events underscore CBC–Alice’s commitment to fostering community partnerships, providing pathways to success, and supporting both students and residents in achieving their educational and career goals.
