Dr. Suarez is sworn inBEEVILLE, TX – Coastal Bend College (CBC) officially installed Dr. Zachary Z. Suarez as the institution’s eighth president during a Presidential Appointment Ceremony held Wednesday, July 23, at the James R. Dougherty Student Union Building on the Beeville Campus. The ceremony marked the culmination of a national search and celebrated the return of Dr. Suarez, a proud community college graduate and former CBC dean, to the institution where his higher education leadership journey began.

Dr. Suarez, who most recently served in senior leadership roles at South Texas College and the University of Texas Permian Basin, expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees and the entire college community during his address.

“As I step into this role, I want to affirm that I am committed to being a president who listens deeply, acts boldly, and ensures that every student, employee, and community member feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed. These guiding principles will anchor every decision we make and every step we take forward—together,” Dr. Suarez said.

The Coastal Bend College Board of Trustees formally welcomed Dr. Suarez into his new leadership role during the signing of the presidential contract and administration of the oath of office. Jeff Massengill, Chair of the Board of Trustees, administered the oath as Dr. Suarez’s wife, Mary, stood by his side holding the Bible.

The ceremony also featured reflections from staff, faculty, and students, including CBC Financial Aid Specialist and Alumni & Friends Association Chair Susanna Yzaguirre, faculty member Taylor Tomlin, and student representative Ryann Martinez.

Yzaguirre shared, “Your leadership comes at a pivotal time, and we are confident that with your guidance, CBC will continue to grow stronger, more innovative, and even more connected to the communities we serve.”

Martinez added, “Dr. Suarez, while many of us may not yet know you personally, we already feel the momentum of your return. We’re excited about the possibilities your leadership brings and the direction our college will take under your guidance.”

In addition, ceremony host Amador Ramirez recognized the contributions of Interim President Dr. Cesar Maldonado, P.E., for his steady leadership during the transition.

Dr. Suarez holds a Doctor of Public Administration from West Chester University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas–Pan American, and an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from South Texas College.

Dr. Suarez and his wife Mary, along with their three sons—Ezra, Ezekiel, and Elijah—are proud to call the Coastal Bend region home once again.
