The Effectiveness of MyMathLab in College Algebra: A Meta-Analysis
Track: Educational/Instructional Pedagogies (EIP)
Coauthors: Kelly S. Hall, Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Lori Kupczynski, Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Daniella G. Varela, Texas A&M University-Kingsville
The study explored the use of MyMathLab, a digital learning platform, and its impact on student outcomes in college algebra. Using a meta-analytic approach, Dr. Wang and his coauthors found that students using MyMathLab performed significantly better than those in traditional instructional settings.
While Dr. Hall joined Dr. Wang at the conference, all three Texas A&M University-Kingsville coauthors were acknowledged for their important contributions to the project.
This award adds to Dr. Wang’s growing list of academic achievements. Last year, he presented his dissertation research at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference in Philadelphia, one of the most prestigious gatherings of education scholars in the world.
Dr. Wang’s recognition at AABRI is a proud moment for Coastal Bend College and comes at a meaningful time during Community College Month. His achievement highlights the powerful impact that community college faculty can have through high-quality research, evidence-based instruction, and a deep commitment to student success. Prior to joining Coastal Bend College, Dr. Wang taught at several institutions in California, including California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; Chapman University; Riverside City College; the University of California–Riverside; and Citrus College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. His work continues to bring national visibility to both his research and the academic excellence of Coastal Bend College.
