Coastal Bend College Names Dr. Zachary Z. Suarez as Lone Finalist for President

Portrait of Dr. Zachary Z. Suarez Beeville, Texas - The Coastal Bend College Board of Trustees has named Dr. Zachary Z. Suarez as the lone finalist for the position of President of Coastal Bend College, following a comprehensive national search and thorough interview process.

Dr. Suarez brings to the role more than a decade of transformative leadership in Texas higher education, including prior service at Coastal Bend College. Known for his collaborative leadership and deep institutional insight, he brings extensive experience in strategic planning, academic innovation, student services, teaching, and institutional effectiveness.

Most recently, Dr. Suarez has served as Executive Director of Human Resources and Talent Development at South Texas College, where he led with a people-centered approach to organizational improvement. He successfully guided the college through the implementation of a new human capital management system and introduced numerous college-wide initiatives—including the Employee Assistance Program, Retiree Association, and Staff Advisory Council—designed to strengthen shared governance, support employee well-being, and foster a culture of engagement.

He previously held multiple senior roles at Coastal Bend College between 2018 and 2020, including Dean of Enrollment Services and Admissions, Interim Executive Dean of Student Services, Dean of Academics, and Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success. During that time, he launched the college’s first interactive online orientation, improved enrollment communications, and contributed to key accreditation reports.

Dr. Suarez holds a Doctor of Public Administration from West Chester University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas Pan American. He began his higher education journey with an associate degree from South Texas College.

“Dr. Suarez’s commitment to student access, operational excellence, and community partnerships aligns with our college’s mission,” said Jeff Massengill, Chair of the Coastal Bend College Board of Trustees. “We are confident that his leadership will guide Coastal Bend College through its next era of growth, innovation, and community impact.”

In accordance with Texas law, the Board must wait at least 21 days before taking final action on the appointment of the president.
