  • Program Overview

    Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas, currently hosts the Talent Search Program which was originally funded in 1976.  The Talent Search Program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary institution of their choice. Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to reenter the educational system and complete their education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in the postsecondary educational institution of their choice.  Number of participants to be served each year by this project:  671 The annual budget is $290,709.

    Educational Talent Search is a federally funded program designed to identify and assist individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (low-income and first-generation) who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary institution of their choice. Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to reenter the educational system and complete their education.

  •  Services Educational Talent Search Provides

    The ETS is a program designed to assist students with college preparation. There are a number of services provided by our program that will help make the transition from high school to college smoother. They include:                                                                                

    • Academic, financial, and career counseling including advice on entry or reentry to
      secondary  or postsecondary programs
        
    • Career exploration and aptitude assessment   
    • Tutorial services  
    • Information on postsecondary education assistance  
    • Exposure to college campuses  
    • Information on student financial assistance  
    • Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications  
    • Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams  
    • Workshops for the families of participants
